Play Divx/Vxid on your telly |

Ok, the single reason for buying this was the Mpeg 4 playback so thats what ill concentrate on. Out of the box I was less than impressed but after updateing the firmware it has performed fantastic. It will play all my Divx/Xvid/Avi files full screen no problems, I usually burn 5 movies onto a DVD-r and watch them that way, again no problems. This player has no trouble with variable bitrate audio files, Ive even played a Divx file encoded with WMA for the audio codec!, which I was very suprised about. It apperently can play Mpeg 4 files with OGG audio but I havent tried this (although it wont play ogg music files). Subtitles? If theyre in srt format again it should display them although it seems abit hit and miss at the moment. It will aslo handle Mpeg 4 files with AC3 audio, so if you have an Divx/Xvid movie with AC3 5.1 audio this player will decode it! Having lived with this player for over a fortnight im really starting to love it, along with my ISP, BitTorrent, Suprnova and Amazon of course!

Excellent.Worked straight out of box first time. Easily upgradeable, now plays Divx files full screen with zoom function enabled and with no timecode permanently displayed. Plays Divx files with multichannel audio as well which is fab, black is black. Worth the extra money if you want to play Divx files. Only one problem thou, Couldn’t get Coaxial Spdif working, lose connection maybe inside or dodgy chip?. But Optical out was fine so used that instead. With a bit of reorganizing of my amplifiers inputs it now plays all my movies in Dolby Digital 5.1 .

What Can I Say?? |
I gotta say this is an impressive piece of kit, its exceeded all my expectations. I brought it because of the low price and the fact that it can play DIVX/XVID. Before buying it I wasnt sure if all my films would work on it and I read some reviews on forums where people were having some problems. It got me thinking. Then when Amazon knocked the price down £10 I took my chance at it, and it was well worth the price. Not only does it look stylish and expensive but also has a slim look to it. Its very easy to use, I tried out alot of different formats and they all worked fine. But I updated the firmware anyways just to keep it up to date. Thats the good thing about it, the manufactures website gives u updates so u can fix any little problems you may have: www.umax.de Even though its a german site it provides an english version of the update. From what I tested it plays the following files : divx, xvid, vcd, kvcd, svcd, asf, wma and mp3. Basically anything.
